CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS DON'T TAKE A BREAK! #piratepride

Thomas Smigo and Mitch Campbell made a trip to VanCortlandt Park in the Bronx over the Thanksgiving break to compete in the EastBay Northeast Cross Country Regionals.

Thirteen states were represented with 237 runners participating in the championship race. Only 30 medals are handed out and Thomas medaled with a 25th place finish overall running 16:00 minutes flat. Thomas brought home a second medal running for Team Pennsylvania; he crossed the finish line in 4th place for PA; as a team, Pennsylvania took 4th place overall in the race.

Mitch crossed the finish with a time of 17:40 giving him a 140th place finish. Thomas and Mitch each turned in an impressive performance given the level of competition that day.

Giving Tree

HAPPY HOLIDAYS PALISADES! CONSIDER GIVING A GIFT TO SOMEONE IN NEED:

The season of giving is here!  We have more than 75 students throughout the district for whom holiday tags have been placed on our Giving Tree at the Palisades High School.  Please stop by the high school or email Mrs. Berger at [email protected] if you are interested in purchasing a gift for one of our students (k-12) who could use a little help this holiday season.  Gift certificates are always welcome!  Gift cards in the amount of $25 from stores like Walmart, Target, or Kohls are always a great idea.  Gift cards for Giant Food Stores are also a nice way to extend some holiday cheer to our families as well!  Gifts or gift certificates may be dropped off at the front desk of the high school by Friday, December 17th, giving us time to get them to the right place.  Please put your gift tag from the tree with the gift when dropping it off at the high school.  Thank you for your generous support of our Annual Giving Tree Project.

(This project is supported by Palisades School District and the Palisades Community Foundation.)

PALMS Food Drive
PALMS COMMUNITY IS ALSO LOOKING OUT FOR THOSE IN NEED:

Volunteers from the St. John's Food Pantry left PALMS with a SUV loaded with donated items from our school community. The passenger volunteer had boxes below her feet and on her lap as there was not an inch to spare!

Thanks again to all community members who assisted with this community event.  (Teacher, Mrs. Pam Flesher and student, Mikayla Irvine are pictured above.)

The winning homerooms in each grade were:

Mrs. HT- 126 items, Mrs. Bellew-32 items, and Mrs. Semon- 42 donated items.

PALMS Student Council expresses their gratitude and hopes that this act of kindness assists those in need.

ATTENTION PARENTS AND GUARDIANS:

PHEAA is offering two webinars regarding financial aid and paying for college:  Covering the Gap and Understanding the Offer Letter

Covering the Gap: Pieces of the Puzzle to Help Pay Your Education Bill

Understanding education balances can be confusing. Whether you’re trying to address the costs or beginning to plan for higher education, this review is for you. Join PHEAA representatives Linda Pacewicz and Daniel Wray for a 1-hour webinar that will emphasize best practices (such as seeking grants and scholarships first), remind families about additional resources (such as payment plans), and review private/alternative loans as a last resort in the process of covering the gap and keeping balances affordable. The discussion will also include the basics of credit, what factors impact a credit score, how can a credit score be improved, and the effects on your borrowing capability.

December 7th, Noon;    December 14th, 6:30 pm

Understanding the Offer Letter and Balances

The “Offer Letter” or “Financing Plans” that you receive provide an idea of the costs associated with attending a postsecondary institution and can be confusing because each school formats their information differently. PHEAA, represented by Linda Pacewicz and Daniel Wray of PA Forward Student Loan Program, will assist you in this 1-hour webinar in understanding and navigating through the types of aid that are listed, what you are being offered, identifying the balances, and next steps needed so you can make knowledgeable and affordable decisions. Q&A interaction is encouraged.

December 9th, 6:30pm;   December 16th Noon
