Francis V Barnes

CELEBRATION OF LIFE PLANNED FOR SUPERINTENDENT, DR. FRANCIS V. BARNES:

Dr. Barnes, our beloved former Superintendent (from 1998-2011) passed away last weekend.  The grief and sorrow we feel can only be consoled by a Celebration of Life in his honor.  He was a great friend and mentor to many, and a true educational leader in our community.  His words and actions affected much of what we enjoy today in Palisades!  We look forward to sharing in celebrating his life and legacy with his family on Sunday, October 3rd at the Walter T. Rohrer Stadium at PHS.  The celebration will begin at 10AM.  His obituary is linked HERE

TINICUM ELEMENTARY IS AWARDED BLUE RIBBON BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION:

Early this week, the Secretary of Education for the United States, Dr. Miguel Cardona, announced the names of the Blue Ribbon Schools chosen.  Of the 325 schools named across the nation, Tinicum Elementary School was named as one of them!  This is an honor and a privilege to be selected as a National Blue Ribbon School.  It is a wonderful achievement for the Tinicum students, staff and families!  Now in its 39th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

We could not be more proud of our Tigers for their hard work and commitment to education!

Look who came back for the celebration...former principal, Ms. Janet Link!  Pictured above is (l to r) Mrs. Allison Dorward, Dr. Amy Glascott, Ms. Janet Link, Dr. Michael Donnelly, Mrs. Alyssa Corboy and Mrs. Heather Wentz - these individuals wrote the application for this award.  Thank you for helping Tinicum to be recognized for the terrific school it is!

DURHAM NOCKAMIXON CELEBRATES 40 YEARS OF EDUCATING CHILDREN!

Congratulations to Durham Nockamixon Elementary School for 40 years of educational excellence and stellar service for their students and families!  Many celebratory activities took place today - games, songs, cupcakes and the burying of a time capsule to be opened in 2031!  Kudos to all who planned this marvelous day to celebrate a very special occasion for the Durham Nockamixon community!  The weather was so cooperative, it could not have been a better birthday party for Durham Nox!

Here is what some of our students say about Durham Nockamixon:

“School is special because I like to play on the playground with the new friends I have made.” - LM (Kindergarten)

“DN is special because it has nice teachers.” - RO (1st Grade)

“DN is special because learning is fun.” - BM (2nd Grade)

“The school is special to me because of the kindness inside of it and the teachers.” - BL (3rd Grade)

“DN is special to me because I've been here since kindergarten, so it is basically a hall of memories and I like that about it.” - WC (4th Grade)

“I love DN so much because this school has helped me learn, I have so much fun here and I love ALL the teachers.  Lastly, I love this school and I’m sad to leave this school at the end of the year.” - AW (5th Grade)

9/11 REDEDICATION CEREMONY AT PALMS:

As you know, the district held a ceremony at our middle school to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and to rededicate the sculpture created by two of our then middle school students, Ellen Aikens and Sarah Fry (graduates of PHS Class of 2007).  Please see the video created by our PHS Video Class to memorialize this moving event.

Servicemen from the American Legion presented the colors to begin our event.  State Representative Shelly Labs sent a certificate, as well as an American flag and Pennsylvania flag for our middle school to display honoring this solemn anniversary.  In addition, many community members were present last evening to take part in the ceremony including several School Board members, firefighters from the Ottsville, Upper Black Eddy and Riegelsville Fire Departments, representatives from the Upper Bucks Emergency Medical Services, and Emergency Managers from Riegelsville and Nockamixon.

Chorus students from PALMS, under the direction of Ms. Brittany Baumeister, performed two songs for the assembled crowd - the Star Spangled Banner and Proud to Be an American - both were beautifully executed by our students.  The evening ended with refreshments served by our cafeteria staff and a special cake from the bakery at the Upper Bucks County Technical School. It was a wonderful tribute! Thanks to all who were able to participate!

Shoe Drive

You will see large trash cans at all of the entrances to the high school for the rest of the month. The Key Club is collecting shoes (new or gently used) for a local fire company. Please raid your closet, your kids' closet, and knock on the neighbor's door to look through their closet, for shoes that you do not want or need anymore. I know many of you have children in the age range where they are changing shoe size faster than your wallet would like. But, now those shoes can be put to good use. The auxiliary is using this as a fundraiser for the fire company and you know that they could use our help. So, please help by filling the trash cans with shoes. Key Club is collecting only for a few weeks, until October. Thanks for any help!
