Standards-Based Report Card

During the 2011-2012 school year, the Palisades School District joined districts across the country as we implemented a standards-based report card with our first and second grade students. In 2012-2013, our third grade students began receiving this type of report card. In 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 respectively, fourth and fifth grade students began receiving standards-based report cards, with 5th grade students also receiving letter grades in preparation for the transition into middle school.

A standards-based reporting system is beneficial for a number of reasons. Rather than providing simply one grade for each subject area, this report card provides specific feedback to you about your child's progress as he or she works to reach proficiency in all of the academic standards. It also ensures consistency of expectations and assessment across classrooms and school buildings.

Last school year, a team of teachers and administrators came together to revise the report card. Our goals were to incorporate the new PA Core Standards and to improve the report card as an effective vehicle for communication between home and school. The team surveyed teachers and parents, studied the feedback, and substantially revised the report card in response. The new report card will be used this year and feedback sought on the effectiveness of the new tool via a survey near the end of the school year.
