PHS Summer Reading
SUMMER READING FOR PHS:

Once again, all students, entering grades 9-12, will be required to complete summer reading assignments. Research has shown students’ reading abilities will decrease with extended time away from reading.  This program has helped maintain and increase students’ literacy skills while providing for classroom discussions around the content of the texts. All students enrolled in an English class are required to read one novel. All students enrolled in a social studies class are required to complete a written assignment. Assessment of the required reading texts for all students in English courses will occur during the second week of the school year regardless of the semester in which the student is enrolled in the associated course. For the social studies courses, students will need to complete a written assignment. Students should share it with their assigned social studies teacher the first week of school regardless of the semester that they have the course. 12th-grade students will need to complete the summer reading social studies packet if they are enrolled in Cultural Diversity or the Government course (even if they are also in an AP course). Please be reminded these assignments must be completed before school starts on August 30, 2021.

We have created a site with more information on and access to each assignment along with answers to Frequently Asked Questions and special needs.  Link to the high school library homepage for access or link directly to: http://tinyurl.com/ydxxe2fk

PIRATES BASEBALL UPDATE:

Last Monday, the Boys Varsity Baseball season came to an end with a loss to Scranton Prep.   Needless to say, the season ended earlier than we were hoping but let's be honest, it was a great ride!!!  The boys played hard, competed and went down battling to the end.

On behalf of all the players & coaches, we wanted to say Thank You to everyone for their support throughout the season.   Our day started off great with a tremendous send-off at the school, Fire Trucks blaring as we rolled out, drove up 412 and saw all the fans on the roadside.   It got better when we saw all the fans down the 1st baseline.   Everyone appreciated the sendoff and support as we took the field!!!

Though our season ended before we wanted it to, we feel incredible about what has been accomplished.   We lost a season to COVID and picked to finish last in the Colonial League.   That inspiration led us to the first District Title ever in Palisades Baseball History.   Your support was incredibly large in our accomplishments.   Case in point, this was the view from the dugout yesterday for our players.

BCIU ESY Posting

We have a great opportunity for high school graduates who are considering a career working with students. With our summer programming right around the corner, we are looking for paraeducators to work this summer at our Extended School Year (ESY) program. Our ESY program will begin on July 6th and continue through August 5th. Since the program runs Monday through Thursday, the program lasts 19 days. This year, lower county sites will include Morrisville Intermediate School and Grandview Elementary School within the Morrisville School District and Penn Valley Elementary School in Pennsbury. In upper county, we are looking for paraeducators for our Strayer Middle School site in the Quakertown Community School District.

We are being very flexible with vacations and days off when needed and we are willing to work creatively to get qualified paraeducators in our classrooms.  We are also offering a stipend of $200 to paraeducators who work the 5 weeks of ESY, with no more than 2 days off throughout ESY.  The rate is $15.50 per hour. To qualify for a paraeducator position, the high school graduate must be 18 years old and willing to complete their paraeducator certification within 90 days from the beginning of ESY.

Here is a link to our recruitment video that can be shared with soon-to-be graduates. We have also attached a copy of a flyer that can be posted in your building.
