Thomas Smigo - DXI Champion

CROSS COUNTRY TEAM HEADED TO STATES!
The Cross Country teams competed at the District XI Championships at DeSales University.  Thomas Smigo ran away with the District Championship finishing in 1st place and winning the Boys AA Overall Champion.  The boys team of Thomas Smigo, Teddy Koven, Liam McDowell, Mitch Campbell, Matt McClintic, Cole Smith, and Stephen Reinard finished 2nd overall finish, just two points behind Northwestern for the championship.  The boys' performance qualified them to compete at the PIAA State Championship as a team next weekend at Hershey!  GO PIRATES!

THIS WEEK'S SPOTLIGHT:  Comprehensive Plan
Every three years, the Pennsylvania Department of Education requires school districts to complete a comprehensive (aka strategic) plan.  Thanks to the support and assistance of nearly 70 stakeholders in our school community, we have completed our proposed plan!  Throughout this process we have surveyed our entire school community, developed focus areas based on those survey results and written action plans to be completed beginning in the 2020-21 school year.  The plan continues through the 2022-23 school year.

Click on this link for our presentation to the Board on 10/16/19 - Comp Plan 20-23 Board Presentation

Click on this link for our Action Plans:  Palisades SD Action Plans 2020-23

A motion to approve our Plan will be on the School Board Meeting Agenda for November 20th.  If approved, it will be submitted to PDE on or before November 30th as required.   Thanks to everyone who participated in this process.  Your input is invaluable!

PENNSYLVANIA YOUTH SURVEY (PAYS):

Every two years, students in grades 8, 10 and 12 are invited to participate in the Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS).  This anonymous survey measures students’ attitudes and behaviors with regard to risk taking such as using drugs and alcohol, vaping and bullying/violence; it also provides information regarding students’ mental health.  Parents/guardians who wish to learn more about PAYS may go to PA Commission on Crime and Delinquency for an overview or click here to view the most recent results of the survey taken in 2017 by Palisades students (the students surveyed in 2017 are currently in grades 10 and 12).  Here is the link on our website: PAYS Survey 2017

A letter from our Director of Pupil Services, Mr. Gladfelter, will be sent to parents/guardians of these students with more information.  It will be sent via e-mail on Monday, October 28th. Students will be participating in this survey over the next two weeks.

Palisades Pirates

FROM PALISADES HIGH SCHOOL: check out this Spirit Week video!  Great students, staff and lots of fun!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Kids for Kindness members and students in the Journeys program are selling pink roses and Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons for a donation of a dollar or more to students, staff, administration, and members of the community.

They will also be selling laminated pink metallic stars in four different sizes, which will be displayed in the Palisades High School cafeteria.  If you purchase a star, it can bear your name, a family member or loved one’s name, a name of an organization, or a message.  The sizes and respective prices are as follows:

5” star – A $1.00 to $4.99 donation; 9” star -  A $5.00 to $9.99 donation; 12” star – A $10.00 to $14.99 donation; 15” star – For any donation equal to or exceeding $15.00. A Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon will be added to all stars for which the donation is $20 or more.

Both fundraisers are a means to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  This organization received an A+ from Charity Navigator, a watchdog group that rates charities and philanthropic organizations on their activities and appropriation of funds.

Please consider helping with this worthwhile cause.  ALL money collected will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  The cost of supplies will be donated by the Kids for Kindness organization.  BREAST CANCER AWARENESS STAR ORDER FORM.pdf
