FRIDAY'S SECURITY INCIDENT AT PHS:

As you likely know, a bomb threat was discovered at the high school in a girls' bathroom Friday morning.  The investigation continues by both the PA State Police and the high school administration.  If you have any information about this incident, please report it to the school's administration (610-847-5131, ext. 2004), to the State Police at 215-249-9191, or you may provide an anonymous tip at 1-844-SAF2SAY.

Special thanks to the State Police for their thorough and timely work in securing our high school, to our teachers, staff and administration for keeping our students safe and stepping up to provide assistance wherever needed, to our bus garage staff for their help in evacuating students from the high school to the middle school and back in a very efficient manner, to our cafeteria staff who took care of feeding all of our students, and to our families who trusted in our communications process.  Teamwork is key!  Thanks to everyone who played a part!  You are all important members of our safety/security team!

PLEASE NOTE:  A debrief will be held by our Superintendent, Dr. O'Connell, on Monday morning with internal members of our team.  Comments and concerns expressed by parents/guardians during the incident and over the weekend will also be discussed.

REMINDER FOR YOUR CALENDAR!  GRADUATION FOR THE CLASS OF 2020 ANNOUNCEMENT!  The graduation ceremony for the PHS Class of 2020 will take place on Friday, June 12th at 5:30PM.  Save the date!

PHS DEBATE TEAM COMPETITORS: As of mid February, the Debate Team’s standing was 12-12. Here are a few highlights this season so far: We have had 18 students participate this year with 7 students experiencing their first year of debate!

Members who have achieved at least one “perfect” round are Allison Ardito, Hailey Coughlin, Hailey Diehl, Sarah Goggin, Tim Goggin, Ally Kaiser, Camila O’Donnell, Ollie Olmstead, and Will Schulz.

Lemonade Crew

SPRINGFIELD'S LEMONADE CREW:
At the last meeting of the School Board, Springfield's Lemonade Crew was honored for their work in raising money for local organizations. They have raised over $400 for these groups: Last Chance Ranch rescuing and rehabilitating equines, farm and domestic companion animals; Harley's Haven Dog Rescue, the Lord's Pantry in Ottsville serving nearly 500 families in the Palisades area, Springfield Elementary's Sunshine Fund for Students in Need and Lehigh Valley Children's Hospital.
They have raised this money by selling homemade lemonade at Springfield movie nights which are held monthly during the school year. Special thanks from the girls to SEPTA and to Mr. Davis for their support. Also, they couldn't do it without super custodian, Jimmy Tomkewitz.
PHS NEW SCIENCE WING APPROVED:
During the last School Board Meeting, the Board approved bids for the science wing renovations. Construction will begin in certain rooms on May 11th. If all goes according to the plan, we will have the rooms back in time for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
From Rich Heffernan, Principal and Assistant to the Superintendent: "We are very excited about the upcoming renovation of our science wing at Palisades High School.  The improvements to this section of our high school will bring this wing up to date with new, state-of-the-art lab spaces and provide areas for increased student collaboration.  Many of our students are very interested in the science programs we offer, and we are thrilled to have a newly constructed, engaging space for students to learn. Many people have been involved in this process, which included budgeting to design. The following people and groups of people are thanked for their work :  Mark Chilton (Scient Teacher), Sue Mette (Science Teacher), Al Crouthamel (Director of Facilities), Dr. O'Connell (Superintendent), Drew Bishop (Business Manager), the entire science department, and the Board Facility Committee (President Musantry and Directors Hallowell and Ott)."
Our public is welcome to attend all of these School Board Meetings! Please check on our web site for agendas/minutes (search by date of meeting) to see what items were voted on by the board - Board Meeting Agendas and Minutes
