12 Reasons to Celebrate Palisades School District this Holiday Season:
1. PHS held their Semester 1 Recognition Program on Monday where the “best of the best” were recognized in front of their peers.  Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work and outstanding efforts!  S1 Recognition Ceremony 2. PALMS received confirmation that they have been selected as a 2019 - 2022 - PA Don Eichhorn School: Schools to Watch School.  We are very excited to join the STW network of schools and look forward to sharing our best practices with others. PALMS Schools to Watch 3. Palisades High School is among only 373 schools in North America (U.S. and Canada) honored by the College Board with placement on its 9th Annual AP® District Honor Roll.  To be included on the 9th Annual Honor Roll, Palisades had to increase the number of students participating in Advanced Placement classes while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher since 2016.  During the 2017-18 school year, 73% of our students who took an AP exam, scored 3 or better (160/219 exams taken). 4. SHOUT OUT to our Music Department and students for their exceptional holiday concert series - congratulations to all of our teachers in the department for making the holiday season a little more special for kids and families - thanks to Carolyn Williams, Abel Maldonado, Eric Morris, Brittany Baumeister, Sue Reed, Tim McGorrey and Emily Kumpf. 5. Also, bizjournals.com ranked all high schools in Pennsylvania according to their achievement on the 2018 Keystone exams. Palisades High School ranked 38th out of 675 high schools across the state. Across the district, 85 students will have a brighter holiday season thanks to YOUR generosity - bags filled with gifts were delivered to ALL of our schools and distributed to those students and families who needed a little help this holiday!  Thank you for your generosity and compassion, more than $2,500 in gifts and gift cards were donated this holiday season! 7. The Harlem Wizards are coming to Palisades High School again this year!  Mark your calendar for Monday, February 25th - tickets will go on sale by mid January.  Sponsors can contact seankirk29@hotmail.com for additional recognition and ticket packs.  Proceeds will benefit Palisades Community Foundation.  Thanks to our planning team for this family fun event - sure to cure the winter blues!​ 8. Palisades School Board hired head cheer coach Lindsay Fitz and Ramie Moussa as the new head coach of the Palisades Pirates Football Team!  Coach Moussa Hire.pdf 9. The Palisades School Board passed a motion NOT to exceed the ACT 1 property tax index of 2.3%.  The budget presented thus far represents the most conservative (worst case) scenario.  There will still be a lot of work to do to bring the budget in line for the 2019-20 school year.  Read More About the Budget for 2019-20 10. Regional competition for Future Business Leaders of America was held this week at Del Val University.  From PHS, the following students received awards:  Greg Derr-Haverlach placed 2nd in Business Communication, Arden Taylor placed 1st and Tim Goggin placed 5th in Cyber Security, Ally Kaiser placed 2nd in Political Science, Nick Caldwell placed 4th in Public Speaking.  Arden Taylor, Ally Kaiser, Tim Goggin and Greg Derr-Haverlach are going to the State Competition in Hershey!!! Four other FBLA competitors are still awaiting the results to determine if they qualified for states! ​ 11. An 11 day break to hopefully rejuvenate and relax with your family.​ 12. And FINALLY, that school starts back up again on Wednesday, January 2nd!  You might be saying thank goodness by 1 / 2 … Whew!!! ​ Here is wishing you and yours a very happy holiday and a healthy and Happy New Year!
