CYBERSONICS HONORED IN HARRISBURG LAST WEEK:

Over the past twenty years, Team 103 has achieved a number of awards and received a myriad of recognitions.  The team is a proud recipient of the Chairman’s Award in 2004, given by Mr. Dean Kamen, the founder of FIRST.  It is the highest honor given to a team by the FIRST Organization. Most recently, the team received the Gracious Professionalism Award the Entrepreneurship Award during the FIRST World Championships in Detroit.

The team began in 1997 at Palisades High School with two committed teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Beck, and a small but dedicated group of students and mentors. The team found a way to fund its inaugural FIRST season through a generous donation. Successfully preparing a robot for a competition and completing an animation entry were both a part of that initial year as well as attending regional competitions. Thus, the FIRST “bug” had bitten the Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania school district.

Since it’s inception, Cybersonics has built and sustained lasting business and personal relationships with all of its valued community members. This includes mentors and students, corporate sponsors, local contributors, parents, and alumni.

Through these strong relationships, the team is able to foster a full circle experience, where former students gain internships and eventually jobs through businesses who have either developed connections or previously sponsored the team. Those students then return to mentor the current team. This creates an enormous network of STEAM driven companies, students, and mentors who help catapult Cybersonics and the community into the future.

Each year Team 103 raises over $50,000 to support their involvement in regional and national competitions.  To become a sponsor for the team, please contact Brent Jones, Advisor

NATIONAL DRUG TAKE BACK DAY SCHEDULED:
The national drug take back day has been scheduled for Saturday, October 27th - please drop off any unused or unwanted prescription drugs at Springfield Elementary School or Wehrungs between 10AM and 2PM.  Get them out of your medicine cabinets and keep them away from our youth! Also, it is better to drop off than to flush into our water system - thanks for keeping our community safe!

Over 54 tons of unused/unwanted drugs have been collected since the beginning of the program!

There are 10 drop sites in Upper Bucks.  The 8 Police Departments will be at their regular sites including:  Dublin, Hilltown, Pennridge Regional, Tinicum (at Wehrungs), Perkasie, Quakertown, Richland Township and Springfield Township (at Springfield Elementary School).  We also will now have drop sites on that day at Grandview Hospital Outpatient Center and St. Luke's Quakertown.

NATIONAL TREKKERS TOURED MIDWEST THIS SUMMER:

A group of 23 middles schoolers have just completed an exploration of the Midwest. The tour provided an amazing opportunity to explore some of our national treasures. After landing in Vegas, the trek started to the Valley of Fire. The Bryce National Parks did not disappoint with their incredible Hoodoos. Zion’s steep cliffs and grandeur were inspiring. Next stop was the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park to see the fine pink waterless beach dunes of the desert. The final park was the Grand Canyon. Almost spiritual, this park was beyond comprehension. Hoover Dam and a Colorado River rafting wrapped up this educational jewel and opportunity for PALMS students.

Not only did the students hike almost 40 miles, they kept up to date on homework and created websites to share the pictures and information from their travels. Enjoy the following team websites created by our students:

ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 10 AND 11 WILL TAKE THE PSAT AT NO COST TO STUDENTS ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10TH:

On Wednesday, October 10th, Palisades High School will administer the PSAT/NMSQT to ALL 10th and 11th grade students. The PSAT/NMSQT is a practice test that helps prepare students for the SAT that most of our students will take during the spring of their 11th grade year. For our 11th grade students, the results are also considered for the National Merit Scholarship program. The school district will pay the registration fees for the students, since the PSAT supports their post-secondary preparedness and is a component of our 9-12 assessment program.

This year we will have nearly 300 students taking the PSAT/NMSQT from approximately in the morning on Wednesday, October 10th. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to be prepared for the SAT's in 11th grade! Good luck!
