Director of Technology

Position Title: Director of Technology

Reports To: District Business Administrator and Superintendent

Qualifications:

  • Formal education and/or training in computer science and related technologies.
  • Experience with WAN, LAN and Proxy Server configurations using Windows Server and Windows Client operating systems. (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) a plus.)
  • Strong people skills in managing technical people, working with technical people, working around students and working with non-technical people.
  • Proven ability to effectively handle multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to effectively evaluate technology and technology vendors.
  • Proven ability to keep current on emerging technologies and their potential use.

Responsibilities:

  • Assure the District WAN, LANs and Internet Access are functional. This includes performing System Administrative functions for district WAN, LANs and Internet access in such areas as system security, system integrity, backups, user access and e-mail.
  • Perform software and hardware problem analysis and repair as needed.
  • Direct management of the District Technician(s) and Technician Assistant(s) working closely with the District Technician(s) to define effective work assignments for the Technician Assistant(s).
  • Work with the school librarians, building contacts, lab assistants, principals and other technology group resources to focus on the three Technology Group Objectives and Responsibilities;
    1. As economically possible, keep district technology functional,
    2. Help chart and maintain the cost effective acquisition and use of district technology.
  • Manage district technology contracts, technology vendors and the district technology maintenance process.
  • Along with the District Librarians and District Business Office, ensure district technology assets are properly managed. Asset management includes coordinating acquisitions, installations, asset reallocation, upgrades and asset disposal.
  • Evaluate new technology requests and technology vendor performance.
  • Participate in District Technology Committee meetings and be active with all other technology related committees within the district.
  • Provide technical expertise for the Professional Development Committee, Budget Process and grant applications. Also locate and distribute information about new technologies which may assist in meeting the district goals.
  • Help maintain, implement and champion the District Technology Plan. Also promote frequent student and staff involvement in an active and vibrant district web site.
  • Work with district and non-district resources (like the IU, Cable Company....) to resolve issues and benefit our technology use within the district.
  • Perform other tasks as identified by the District Superintendent.
