Tinicum Blue Ribbon

TINICUM BLUE RIBBON AWARD BROUGHT HOME TO BUCKS COUNTY!

This week, our school was celebrated on Tuesday for our National Blue Ribbon Award! Our students and faculty/staff dressed in blue to commemorate the day. We had some special guests join us and our fifth grade ambassadors provided building tours. After a brief virtual assembly, Stripes the Tiger, our Prize Patrol, and some special guests delivered pencils and blue cupcakes (made by our Tech School) to each of our boys and girls to enjoy! It was a fun way to celebrate this
amazing accomplishment!

Special thanks for our local legislators, Congressman Fitzpatrick, Senator Mensch and Representative Labs for their recognitions!  And thanks to our food services department, particularly Lisa Ritchey and her staff for making the day so enjoyable!  Also, thank you to Ms. Link and her team for their efforts in putting forth the application which led to this prestigious honor!

The plaque received last week at the National Blue Ribbon Award Ceremony in DC will be hung in the showcase at Tinicum!  Congratulations to this school community!  We are #palisadesproud!

School Board Logo

THANK YOU to Mr. Bob Fumo for his service on our School Board of Directors; Bob opted not to return and his term has now ended.  Bob is from Region 3-Springfield and will be replaced by Ms. Landis.  Board reorganization takes place on Monday, December 6th followed by a Regular School Board of Directors Meeting.

BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS - 1st Budget Presentation for 2022-23 School Year:
1.  The Act 1 Index for Palisades School District for the 2022-2023 budget year is 3.4%. This is the maximum increase allowable for the District without seeking exceptions. This index is set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

2.  The Transportation budget has increased $288,500 due to the unknown cost of fuel and other ramifications due to the expiration of our current transportation contract on June 30, 2021. The District hopes to lock in fuel if and when the price decreases. The Board is actively working on the transportation contract for next year.

3.  The debt service budget shows an increase of $78,875. However, the Board refinanced a bond issue and realized $76,000 in savings in the 2021-2022 budget so the debt service line has stayed relatively flat from the preliminary 2021-2022 budget.

LAST CHANCE!  PUBLIC LIBRARY CARD DRIVE - BE A PART OF THE LITERACY MOVEMENT!

From Nov. 8 - 21, the Bucks County Free Library will be running a Virtual Library Card Drive for the Palisades School District! During the dates of the drive, you will be able to register your child for a library card right from home, and your child will receive their brand-new Bucks County Free Library card at school. Whether you choose to visit the library in person or enjoy our services entirely from home, there is so much your child can do with a library card!

All 7 of our branches are currently open, including branches in Quakertown and Perkasie. We invite you to visit one of our branches and browse the large collections of books, audiobooks, movies, board games, and magazines that you can borrow, all for free. For quick pick-up of items, we continue to offer curbside pick-up at all branches. Simply request the items you want by placing holds on them in our online catalog. You'll get an e-mail when they're ready for you to pick up, and we'll bring your items outside to your car when you arrive at the library.

Our digital resources are available anytime, anywhere, and are completely free with your library card. Use Hoopla to borrow movies and TV shows you can watch on your smart TV. Enjoy books and audiobooks on your e-reader, tablet, or smart phone with CloudLibrary. Get homework help from live tutors on Brainfuse HelpNow. Find helpful facts, articles, and photos for school assignments by searching through the many kid-safe resources in Power Kids. The library is constantly adding new items, resources, and programs, making your library card a source of endless possibilities!

Ready to register your child for a library card? Here's how:

  1. Click on this link to go to the online library card application for students - https://buckslib.org/school-outreach-library-card-application/

  2. Enter the password: $choolYear2021

  3. Fill out the application with your child's information. If you have more than one child, fill out a separate application for each child. Students ages 14+ can fill out their applications themselves.

  4. We'll receive your application(s) at the library and set up your child(ren)'s library card account(s). You'll get an e-mail with the account information as soon as the account is ready. This means you can start using it right away, even before you have the physical card.

  5. After the drive has ended, your child will receive their physical library card at school.

I hope you enjoy the many resources the library has to offer your child and your family!
