Community Relations

From Our Office to Your Family!  Happy Holidays from the Community Relations Office!

Special thanks to the MANY donors who helped nearly 80 children in our community who are living with economical challenges.   Your generous donations have helped all of them enjoy a brighter holiday!  Thanks to each and everyone who made a donation - large and small - may you all enjoy a wonderful holiday and a prosperous New Year!  Best wishes to ALL of our community members, with love and respect, from Donna and Ann (above).

Much gratitude to the PHS students in the Kids for Kindness Club and to all of our school nurses and counselors for their support in this Annual Giving Tree effort!  Sometimes it just takes a village!

The Gift of Giving Graces Springfield Elementary School:

Members of the Springfield Mennonite Church delivered gifts as a thank you to all of the staff at Springfield Elementary School for the work they do each day!  In the faculty room, our staff enjoyed coffee, donuts, and veggie & fruit trays supplied by the group.  Other gifts and games were distributed at the school thanks to this organization!  Thank you everyone for making this holiday season and our community so special!

Spotlight on a New Science Wing at PHS:

A renovation for the science wing at Palisades High School is being proposed by the School Board of Directors.  Currently, architectural drawings have been prepared and reviewed. This project will be going out to bid in January, 2020.  Pending Board approval, the project would begin toward the end of the school year and will encompass all of the current science classrooms/footprint.  The proposed renovations include: updating the classrooms and furniture in this area, providing additional natural light by reconstructing the roof over this area, and opening up space (a common area) for students to collaborate with their peers.

The science wing at PHS was last renovated in the mid 90's and requires updating.  All costs associated with this project will come from the district's savings for capital projects and will not impact taxes for our residents.  The proposed costs hovers at around $2.5 million.

December 18, 2019 - Resolution not to exceed the Act 1 Index Board approved

Summary of the Budget Process 12/18/19:

  • The School Board passed the Resolution not to exceed the Act 1 Index of 2.6%

  • The net result of the budget items presented to the Board reflects a preliminary overall deficit of $2,777,870. This is the worst case scenario as it relates to projected school spending and revenues for the 2020-2021 school year. By passing the resolution at Wednesday’s (12/18/19) School Board Meeting, the Board has limited the tax increase for the 2020-2021 school year to 2.6%. There has been no determination what the tax increase will be by the time the Final Budget is approved in June, however, an increase for the 2020-2021 school year cannot be more than 2.6% (our district’s Act 1 index as specified by the PA Department of Education). There is still a tremendous amount of work to be done on this budget by the School Board and Administration between now and when the final budget is passed in June.  Costs will be trimmed while balancing our ability to provide the best possible education for all of our students.

NOTE:  The public is invited to attend the next Budget Presentation scheduled for December 18th, at 6PM in the high school library.  Highlights of the budget presentations will be posted on our Website under School Board/Budget Presentations - https://www.palisd.org/school_board/budget_information/2020-21_budget_information

Agendas and Minutes are posted under Board Docs:  use this link

The public is encouraged to attend all meetings of the Palisades School Board; meetings on Wednesdays during the school year - check www.palisd.org for dates and times.
