Helpful Hints

Moving to full or partial online learning environment is a major shift in the mode of education. Often, it can be an overwhelming time for you and your student to navigate, so it is critical that you have a plan for approaching and handling the responsibility of managing your student's own learning time. Take advantage of teachers and these resources to help you get started. Here are some strategies to help students get started:

Keep a Journal

Keep a journal of the time and lessons you have completed each day. You can take notes in your journal as well. Utilizing this strategy will help you keep track of your time and meet deadlines.

Check-In

Check in with your teacher(s) and attend classes as required.  Your teachers are valuable resources and can help you access your classes, create schedules, provide resources to help you study or understand concepts and can assist you through challenging subjects or topics.

Create a Schedule

In a traditional school you will spend at least 7 hours at school a day. Consider this when managing your online workload. Make a schedule and dedicate small chunks of time to each course every day and study small amounts at a time. Older students may want to make a "To-Do" list every morning so you know what you need to get done that day.

Avoid Multi-Tasking

Multi-tasking seems like an inevitable practice in the fast paced society we live in. However, focus on a single task is a valuable skill to develop and help you in life. While working on your school work, avoid using social networking, television, and other distractions.

Reach Out For Help

It is very important not to wait to ask for help. If you are struggling contact a classmate, teacher, or school administrator immediately. There are many support channels available to you and it is the school's job to make them available. Please don't wait to ask for help and the problems become compounded and more difficult for you.
